OUR FAVOURITE PASTIE STOPS

Pasties we’ve ridden for, travelled for and would happily go back for.

Home of the traditional Cornish Tiddy Oggy. Chris is the third generation of his family at the bakery, and we always love stopping in for a pastie and a catch-up. We’ve filmed behind the scenes as he makes the Tiddy Oggys, and once rode nearly 200km from Adelaide for one! Whether we’re cycling or driving through, it’s a favourite stop.

Our original Cycle Adventures pastie stop and where Serafina’s pastie obsession began! We’ve ridden down to McLaren Vale more times than we can count, sometimes simply because a pastie craving needed satisfying! Right by the bike path, it’s a welcoming stop for cyclists, with water bottle top-ups, toilets and great pasties. We’ve filmed here, brought group rides along for pastie pilgrimages, and always love coming back.

We came across St Georges Bakehouse while riding around Adelaide and stopped for lunch. Leanne noticed we were cyclists and gave us a discount! Turns out they give a discount to anyone with a bike or wearing cycling kit, which we thought was pretty cool! Right by the Halifax Street bikeway, there's plenty of outdoor seating and room for bikes. The spinach pastie was delicious, Gus loved the coffee, and we loved meeting people who genuinely welcome cyclists. A great little find in the heart of Adelaide!

MEET SERAFINA & GUS

Two different journeys, a shared love of cycling, and plenty of adventures along the way.

SERAFINA

Founder, producer & host

Serafina created Cycle Adventures from her love of cycling, exploring, meeting people and storytelling. She loves discovering the stories behind the places they visit and sharing them with others.

GUS

Co-host & route planner

Gus plans the adventures, finding interesting places, challenging routes, local history and, of course, a good bakery along the way! He keeps the bikes rolling and brings plenty of humour and curiosity to the show.

SERAFINA'S STORY

Born in New Zealand and now based in South Australia, Serafina’s life has taken her from growing up in a religious cult to travelling the world, living through the Christchurch earthquakes and eventually building an independent television series from the ground up.She legally changed her name to simply Serafina — a single name, with no surname, chosen as part of claiming her identity and defining her life on her own terms. Her story has been featured by IF Magazine, InDaily, Take 5 and on ABC Conversations with Sarah Kanowski. Today, her work spans television, cycling, adventure and writing, and she is currently working on her memoir.

GUS'S STORY

In late 2022, weighing around 130kg and low in confidence, Gus decided to change the direction of his life. He went on to lose around 60kg, but the bigger change was in how he began to see himself. As cycling became a bigger part of his life, short rides grew into longer adventures, climbs through the Adelaide Hills and eventually a 215km ride from Adelaide to Port Elliot and back. He taught himself along the way, through videos, research and giving things a go. He didn’t wait until he felt confident — he did things first, and the confidence came afterwards. Some of those videos were Serafina’s. A chance meeting while riding Norton Summit led to an episode about his story, then more rides together, filming together and eventually Gus becoming the other half of Cycle Adventures. The viewer had become someone helping create the adventures himself.Gus loves a fast group ride and a chance to test himself, but he’s just as happy exploring a back road, finding somewhere new or mucking around along the way. He plans the show’s cycling routes, poring over maps, researching local history and finding the places and details that make an adventure worth sharing. And when a road closure changes the plan halfway through a ride, he’s usually the one finding another way.Today, cycling means freedom, community and the chance to see what’s around the next corner. Gus wants to explore new places, make great episodes and have fun on his bike. His philosophy is simple: don’t decide in advance what you’re capable of. Give yourself the chance to find out.

Places We’ve Stayed

A collection of places we’ve stayed that have featured in Cycle Adventures — places we’ve enjoyed, that worked well for us as cyclists, and that we’d happily recommend.

A chance conversation with Penny and Simon over coffee in Marrabel led us here! Surrounded by open country, gravel roads and wonderful places to explore, we loved that there was so much riding right from the doorstep.

Jeanette has put so much thought into making this place cyclist-friendly, with bike stands and a bike wash station. It's a fantastic base for exploring the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley, with the Warburton Rail Trail right beside the park.

We discovered The Grape Escape through a chance encounter in McLaren Vale! A couple who recognised us from Cycle Adventures got chatting and told us about their accommodation nearby, right beside the bike path. We've now stayed twice, kept in touch, and loved having such a nice place to stay in the heart of McLaren Vale while exploring the region by bike.

A recommendation from one of our viewers, Greg, brought us here, and he was right! Stefan was a wonderful host, and we loved being near Alligator Gorge, with the rail trail to Melrose, friendly locals and even some possums to meet.

A comfortable place to stay in a great location, with easy access to everything we wanted to explore around Wallaroo. It made a really convenient base for our adventures along the Copper Coast.
